New Zealand Chiefs Rugby

The New Zealand Super 15's rugby conference system is giving the Chiefs a reason to be nervous. Their performance has been ordinary against their fellow New Zealand franchises since the conference began in 1996, where they have lost almost 60% of their 60 derbies played. If the Chiefs every want to be taken seriously as title contenders, they have simply got to start winning more conference matches.

The easiest way to start a winning streak is at home, but the Chiefs have a losing home record at Waikato stadium against New Zealand teams. The Chiefs had an especially rocky history up until 2001 when John Mitchell bolstered the team for a season. Ian Foster built on that positive base and they began to see some occasional playoff appearances and improve their rep with other teams.
