The Tri Nations Cup may herald the psychological war before the actual Rugby World Cup matches. The All Blacks have lost continuously in the Tri Nations tournament and this has resulted in a total change in the top three contenders.
There is a marked difference in the opinions of the contenders for the World Cup title being affected by the results of the Tri Nations tournament. While the top three sides which included New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa are downplaying the importance of these matches their northern rivals believe in the confidence that comes with a win.
The All Blacks lost both their matches in the Tri Nations title and the Wallabies beat them 25-20 to claim the Tri Nations cup. The rival coaches however deny the psychological advantage that comes with a win. They are of the opinion that a round robin tournament like the Tri Nations Cup becomes irrelevant when compared to the pressure of the World Cup playoff rounds.
